Cologuard Test is a test to identify colorectal neoplasia-associated DNA markers as well as the presence of occult hemoglobin in human stool. If the test results positive, it means the existence of colorectal cancer (CRC) or advanced adenoma (AA) and you need to do a diagnostic colonoscopy. How do I get the Cologuard Test kit?

Your health care practitioner must purchase the Cologuard testing kit for colon and rectal cancer. You will receive the test kit via mail or handover to you when you meet the doctor. After your stool sample is tested by the lab, your doctor will give you the results and the status.

What happens if the Cologuard Test is positive?

If you get the results as “positive”, it says that the test discovered aberrant DNA and/or blood that might be caused by colon cancer or precancer. But don’t get fear! The test may sometimes potentially produce an incorrectly positive result. This signifies that the test result is positive, but there is no cancer or precancer present. Cologuard Test was investigated in a big clinical study to establish its efficacy. The trial included over 10,000 participants across 90 locations in the United States and Canada. Before having a standard colonoscopy, all participants in the study received Cologuard and a fecal occult blood test. The primary goal of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of Cologuard in detecting cancer and precancer to that of a colonoscopy. In the clinical trial, Cologuard properly diagnosed 92 percent of colorectal malignancies and 42 percent of advanced adenomas in the diseased study group. The Cologuard test properly identified 87 percent of trial individuals who did not have colon cancer or advanced adenomas as having a negative screening result. In other words, 13% of persons who did not have cancer or precancer tested positive.
